It’s Almost June :O

The school year is almost done and now I’m getting all sentimental and stuff :( Tuesday was the last day of Japanese class, so we were all really emotional. The classes were fun but it was pretty difficult to do night school. I can’t see myself doing it again, mostly because I’ll be way too busy next year. But I’ll still be studying Japanese!! I’ve self-studied before, I’ll do it again^^

I’m still waiting for the final verdict on my study abroad application. The applications were due May 1, but I handed it in early so I’ve been waiting for a month (and it’s killing me!). Seriously!! Waiting is the hardest thing ever. I just want to go to Japan so bad, I can’t wait any longer.

That’s about it for now. Wish me luck everyone :)

Loving Japan~Judgemental People

So! Quick post because I’m going out soon and I really wanted to get something up this weekend.

**Warning, crazy ranting below**

The title is pretty self-explanatory. Being infatuated with Japan has it’s downsides when you’re surrounded by judgemental people. I’ve certainly gotten past the point of being shy about it. I tell whoever, I don’t care how they react. But when I first really fell in love with Japan, it was half difficult and half awkward explaining it to people. I’ve gotten way too many “Do you want to be asian?” and “Is it because you like anime?”. NOO to BOTH of these questions :(

It honestly bothers me so much. You hear people say they want to live in different countries all the time, but people don’t get uncomfortable about it. I have friends who say they want to live in California, some New York, and others Italy and France. I think about Japan in the EXACT same way.

I have a theory. Maybe because anime is so widespread in Canada that there is a bad stigma about the people who watch it. I guess that when I say I want to live in Japan, people assume it’s because I want to live life like I’m in an anime? I don’t know.

Well reader, I’m sure by now you’re all “Julia, then WHY do you want to go to Japan?”. Ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated with Asian culture in general. I think it has to do with having korean friends when I was younger. My sister and I were really close with them and we were introduced to new foods, a new language, and a new culture. I just loved it so much. It was so different from the way people were living in Canada. Also, I loved animes like Cardcaptors, Spirited Away, Digimon, and #1 on my list, Pokémon <3

It’s weird though, because it was really in grade 9 that I started watching animes again. I forgot how much I loved that stuff :) But it’s really important to note that animes have nothing to do with why I want to live in Japan. They just kind of revived my love for the country. Next thing I knew I was self-studying Japanese and the rest is history :’)

Anyway!! Sorry for super long rant! I’ll leave on a positive note. Who cares what other people think. Do what makes YOU happy, regardless of what other people say. It’s your life and you can do anything you want with it, no matter how crazy your dream is.

Corny life advice is DONE! See you later! ;)

Spring!!~

I’m so happy spring is finally here, because it means school is ALMOST done!!! This semester has been pretty painful, mostly because I have to work so hard at math. I fail at math. Anyway!! I have some good news. I’ve spent the last month putting together my study abroad application. I finally finished my essay and got all my references!! Now’s the hardest part: waiting. I’ve done so much to get to where I am now and I just hope my efforts pay off.

ugh, I want to go there sooooo bad!! Especially since cherry blossoms are in full bloom right around now **sigh**

I’ve also been thinking about starting a Youtube channel. My dream would be to get the scholarship and blog in Japan. I love giving advice and I think it’d be the perfect opportunity to show people what it’s like to be a foreigner in Japan. It would be amazing to actually have people watching and benefitting from my videos.

Mario Party 9 Launch Party

So! Photoshop is my friend again which means it’s time to blog <3 As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a Club Nintendo member and I get emails from them all the time. A week ago I got this:

I’ve never really been to a Nintendo event, so I was actually really excited when my mom said she was down to go too. It was also our first time at Hard Rock Cafe.
Classy.

We arrived around 30 minutes too early, so we had to stand in the cold for a while :( We we’re lucky though, because we were among the first to get in.
Mom and I freezing outside.

When we were finally let into Hard Rock Cafe, they took us upstairs and there were these stations with wiis in them where everyone could try the game. It was really cool knowing we were playing it before it even came out. Playing it was fun, and it didn’t even feel awkward playing with people we didn’t know because everyone was pretty nice.

The best part was when Mario came out and I was freaking out like a lunatic. They played music from Super Mario Land and the nostalgia took over :’) I have a bunch of photos of me with Mario, but since my mom had trouble with my camera they all turned out blurry :’(
When I get my hands on a better version I’ll put them up here. For now, here’s a crappy photo:
After the party we headed across the street to Johnny Rockets, a retro 50s diner. The food was so good, we both had a really great time. We don’t go downtown very often so it was definitely a nice change. Here’s mom looking at the menu. She’s so cute I love her <3
After we ate we went to the Eaton Center for a while. I got a Japanese-English dictionary (I know, so nerdy) but I’m tired of using Google Translate haha ^^ We also went to Hot Topic and I got the most amazing T-shirt ever…
SOO CUTTEE!! I looove Hatsune Miku, and it was so cool to see it in a North American store.
All in all, it was an amazing day. I hope my mom and I can do something like this again because we had so much fun. Hopefully another Nintendo event? :)
